Chapter Events

WVU Charlotte hosts a number of events throughout the year that serve our members professionally, socially, and philanthropically.  Events will be held in Charlotte, NC and the surrounding areas .  When available, the events will be broadcasted via our website, social media, and member email lists.  We utilize various venues based upon the type of event we schedule.  Check the calendar below for more details on upcoming events.

Chapter initiatives

The WVU Charlotte Alumni Chapter is committed to creating meaningful opportunities for alumni, students, and friends of West Virginia University to connect, engage, and support one another throughout the Charlotte region. Our chapter initiatives are designed to strengthen the Mountaineer network, foster school pride, and make a positive impact in our local community.

Whether cheering on the Mountaineers during football season, celebrating university milestones, or participating in alumni events, we proudly promote the traditions and values that unite WVU graduates across generations.

The success of our chapter depends on the passion and participation of our alumni. Whether you attend an event, volunteer your time, serve on a committee, or help welcome new graduates to the area, there are many ways to become involved and make a difference.

Together, we are building a stronger Mountaineer community in Charlotte—one connection, one event, and one initiative at a time.

 NC License plate initiative

Over the last 15+ years, alumni chapters in North Carolina have worked together in an attempt to bring a West Virginia University license plate to the state of North Carolina. Despite enthusiasm among alumni and fans, the efforts to obtain the required number of paid applications for plate approval stalled far short of the goal.

We are excited to announce that we are starting the push again to make these plates a reality!

To reserve your plate and help to ensure that we can see the flying WV on North Carolina license plates, we need your help!  The state of North Carolina requires 300 completed and signed applications to authorize the issuance of the plate.  To help, we have created this Google form, which will require you to provide all of the information required by the form. You will be required to provide name and contact information that matches the vehicle title, vehicle information such as make, model, and VIN, and will need to provide your insurance information.

Once your information is provided, we will populate the form, and send to you for e-Signature.  There is also a $30 fee required by the DMV (+ small processing fee). You will receive an invoice AFTER we secure the 300 applications.

WVU Charlotte Chapter representatives will also have paper applications available at future chapter events in the event you would prefer to complete an application in person.

Please note: If you wish to have a personalized plate, you may provide that information in your application as well, but you will be responsible for the additional fee. Please see the DMV official website for rules regarding personalized special plates.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our chapter representatives: Jeff Willink (jeffrey.willink@gmail.com) or Mallory Willink (president@wvucharlotte.org).

Bears & Blankets

Each year, more than 9,000 children are admitted to WVU Medicine Golisano Children’s Hospital, many facing serious health challenges in unfamiliar surroundings. The Bears & Blankets initiative was created to provide comfort to these young patients through the donation of new stuffed animals and blankets.

Alumni across the country participate by collecting and donating new bears and blankets, or by contributing financially through designated WVU Foundation giving pages. These donations will be given to children upon admission or as a reward for completing treatment, helping to brighten their hospital experience.
